Photo Shoots

Photo Shoots are a great way to meet fellow NCPS members and enjoy photography in the field at a wide variety of picturesque locations. If you have images from a Shoot you'd like to share, please send them to the NCPS Webmaster, and be sure to put the location, your name, and a brief description of each image. Please read this article for information about submitting images. All images should be less than 150k in size, and no dimension should be larger than 640 pixels. If you would like to make a suggestion about places to have Photo Shoots, or comment on a past photoshoot, please send an email to NCPS Photo Shoot.

Rancho Guanjome Jan. 26, 2008 We had a well attended photo shoot at the Rancho Guajome Adobe historical ranchsite on January 26th. Here are some of the images submitted by our members.


Pt. Loma Tide Pools and Ft. Roscrans National Cemetery -- April 4, 2007 A photo photo shoot at the Point Loma Tide Pools and Ft. Roscrans Cemetery was lead by Carrie Barton. There were more than 15 members that participated. All had a great time slipping and sliding on the rocks trying to get the perfect angle.


UCSD Mar 10, 2007 Ten photographers enjoyed a talk by Mary Beebe the director of the Stuart Collection at UCSD. This was followed by a photoshoot of the collection and campus.


Torrey Pines State Park October 28, 2006 A photo photo shoot at the Torrey Pines State Park was lead by Al Schlegel. There were seven members that participated


Tecate May 20, 2006 Thirteen photographers rode the train from Campo to Tecate, Mexico on a fun-filled, hot Saturday. As Cathy and Jim House remarked, "Photo shoots are such a wonderful opportunity for members to share information and friendship."


Daley Ranch May 7, 2006 A photo hike at the Daley Ranch in Escondido was lead by Carrie Barton. The afternoon hike was graced by nice late afternoon sunlight and perfect temperatures! A great group of nine showed up to do the 3.5 mile Boulder Loop. The preserve is very green and pretty right now, and we even got the very unusual and special treat of seeing a tarantula on the trail!


Disney Concert Hall / Bradbury Building - April 1, 2006 Eleven members taveled by train from Oceaside for a day photographing the Frank Gehry-designed Concert Hall, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angles, and the historic Bradbury Building.


2004 Scavenger Hunt - July 10, 2004 26 photographers showed up for this outstanding event, organized by Carolyn Taylor, Carrie Barton, Sylvia Pauloo-Taylor, Bob Harrington, and Craig Grow. In the morning, we roamed the beaches and streets of Oceanside, equipped only with our throwaway $2.59 cameras. Everyone voted for their category favorites, and here are the results!


2005 Scavenger Hunt - July 30, 2005 Members' photos (taken with a one use camera) were shown at the party. Winners of the most creative of assigned themes were: Carrie Barton, Ken Rockwell, Jim Wenck, Garrie Rhodes, Kahuku Oades, Sharon Anthony, Barbara Swanson, James Sanders, Sylvia Pauloo-Taylor, and Steve Bunyak. The real winner was six-month old little Dylan Bunyak who outshown all the prize photos!


Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum - Vista Fifteen NCPS members met at this 40 acre site, home to hundreds of antique steam engines, tractors, cars, trucks, and every kind of old machine you could imagine. Web Site:


Anza Borrego   2005   2010   The wildflowers were spectacular in Spring thanks to the heavy rainfall in the winter.


Balboa Park One of the most beautiful parks in America. Stay tuned for more great images from our March 27 photo shoot, and in the meantime, enjoy these submissions from Barbara Swanson.


Bernardo Winery Members enjoyed a Saturday morning photo shoot here, a first visit for most of us to this old family owned establishment, founded in 1889. There were plenty of photographic opportunities here, and several of us stayed on for patio dining at the Cafe Merlot - a wonderful time for everyone.


Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve 2007 2004 On July 23 2007    14 avid photographers went on a photo shoot led by Sharon Anthony to the Bolsa Chica Ecological reserve in Huntington beach. There were plenty of birds to shoot and some are shown below. We also stopped at the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary also having many birds to shoot. It was a great time and please thank Sharon for her efforts.


Bumann Ranch Richard and Twink Bumann hosted 20 members at their ranch on Feb. 29. There were photographic opportunities galore, followed by lemonade and homemade cookies.


Daley Ranch - April 17, 2005 Nine members attended the photo shoot in Escondido. There were many photographic opportunities and a good time was had by all.


Ensenada, Mexico Nine members, led by Jim Cline, enjoyed a visit to Ensenada on May 1 and 2. We circled home through the wine country and reentered at Tecate. Now we've got lots of images to sort out before our sharing get-together next month. A duplicate trip is planned for May 8 and 9, so watch the web site for results.


The Huntington The Huntington is a complex of gardens, a large research library and art collections. Five NCPS members, led by Bob Cameron, trekked up there and enjoyed the incredible beauty of the Botanical Gardens.


Leo Carillo Ranch Sixteen NCPS members gathered at Carlsbad's Leo Carrillo Ranch Historical Park on October 4. We brought all kinds of equipment - tripods, digital cameras, macro lenses, zooms - all to capture the scenic atmosphere. Web Site:

Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve The photoshoot, held on March 20, 2008, was led by Dan Nougier. It was a cool and cloudy morning but beautiful with spring green and flowers, and of course, the vernal pools and their little water snakes!


Old Town Nine NCPS members enjoyed a typical San Diego winter sunny day in the historic Old Town district.


Orange Empire RR Museum - 2005, 2009 This outing was led by Dan Nougier and Robert Chavis


Quail Gardens Quail Gardens is always beautiful, with plants from all over the world, and something always in bloom. This December, our members went on a photo shoot during the Festival of Lights, and here are some of the images from that night. Web Site:


San Juan Capistrano Carolyn Taylor organized one of our most successful photo shoots yet, with more than 25 members attending! We toured the historic Los Rios District, dropped by Robert A. Hansen's studio at the Center Gallery, and visited the beautiful Mission. Web Site:


Aerospace Museum The topic for this photoshoot was not aircraft but "Abstract Lines, Curves and Shapes" that can be conceptulized and photographed from the museum's collection. The photoshoot was hosted by Bob Cameron. Bob is also a certified guide at the museum. Web Site:


Little Italy Phil Herwwegh assisted by Kat Larson led this fine photoshoot


Agua Hedionda Agua Hedionda Lagoon shoot, on June 14, 2008, led by Sylvia Pauloo-Taylor. This photo shoot was inspired by Sylvia's involvement with the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation Photography Exhibition. As part of that effort, one of the lagoon residents took us out for boat rides in search of more photo ops! It was a fun morning!
